I use my plastic sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc containers for leftovers, like a lot of people do. But these plastics weren't really meant to be used over and over again, so after a few uses - especially if you heat them in the microwave - they begin to soften and become a little more fragile.
But don't throw them away!
These containers are perfect for starting seeds. They are just the right depth, and often wide enough, that you can get 2 or 3 seedlings going in one container.
Wash the containers out well – preferably by hand, with a mild soap – and rinse very well. Use a small pin to poke about 10 holes in the bottom. Fill with dirt and plant your seeds, and continue as you would with small seedling pots!
After you transplant them into the ground (or pot) for a permanent home, the containers can easily be recycled.

Good tip. I love to recycle things. My mother actually taught us to use these plastic containers as temporary seedling pots.
Thanks for the reminder. With spring around the corner I was thinking of using those plastic containers to start seeds.
Right now I have a stash. Usually, I send dinner guests home with leftovers in them. They also make great cookie containers for the gang at work.
Now thats a good idea... and just in time for planting season :)
